049 Road Book A – November 5, 1800

I Theodorus Bailey of the Town of Poughkeepsie in the
County of Dutchess and state of New York,,do,, certify that in
Pursuance of an act of the Legislature of the said state of NY [??]
an act for the gradual abolition of slavery passed the 29th day of
March 1799 I have this day manumitted and do by these presents
manumit my negro man slave named Jack, aged about
Fifty five years
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal this fifth day of November
one thousand eight hundred
Theodorus Bailey
sealed and delivered in the presence of Samuel Hawkins
James Tallmadge Jnr
State of New York fs. I gilbert Livingston master in
Chancery do certify that on the twenty fourth Day of February
one thousand eight hundred and one before me came James
Tallmadge Junior who on being duly sworn did declare that
He did See Theodorus Bailey execute the within written [ins???]
as his Deed and that Samuel Hawkins with him the deponent [??]
the same as witness to the execution thereof
