I just googled “Nero Davis” and Poughkeepsie and came to this site — as I am looking at Robert Noxon’s daybook where on March 4th, 1791 he declares he is freeing “My negro boy Cesar” after certain payments which were recorded. One of the payments by Nero Davies. Might I be able to post the photo of the entry?
I would love to see this. Davis (aka Nero Morris) has an interesting story.
How can I get you the photo of the entry? My email is bill.jeffway@dchsny.org I am with DC Historical Society….
Have you seen reference to “Cezar Robert Noxons boy” in Bartholomew Noxon’s will? The elder Noxon leaves one coat to “my negro George(?)” and one to Cezar “if he shall live with any of my children at my death.”
Dutchess County Wills Liber A p. 270 – (1784-1791) Will of Bartholomew Noxon)
I had not seen the will, thank you. Among the things here you may like to see the Poughkeepsie Equality Trail or the summary of slavery census numbers…. http://www.dchsny.org/african-heritage
I love what you are doing here…
