Dutchess County fs. Harry Vanderbilt a Black Man
having this day exhibited before me John Johnston, First
Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of said County proof
of his Freedom, the said proof being reduced to writing and
exhibited to me in the village of Poughkeepsie in said
County, the place of residence of the said Harry Vandebelt
and being of opinion that the said Harry Vandebelt is free
according to the Lawsof this State. I do hereby certify the
same, The said Harry being about five feet five inches in
height of a slender make of a light complexion for a Black
of about Fifty five years, his place of Birth Flat-
Bush on Long Island, and that he became free about the 19th
of January in the year of our Lord 1799. as nearly as I can
ascertain the same. Given under my hand the 30th April 1816
