Whereas Robert L Reade of the Town of Poughkeepsie
in the County of Dutchess and State of New York, Administ=
=trator of the goods and credits of the estate of John Reade
deceased, has made application to us William Emott &
Thomas Nelson Overseersof the Poor of the Town of Poughkeepsie
in said County, In order to obtain a certificate immediately
before the manumission of his slave Thomas
Warren, a Black man said to be forty years of age,
agreeable to an Act of the Legislature of this State
We the said overseers having examined the above named
slave, do hereby certify that the said Thomas Warren appears to be under
the Age of fifty years and of sufficient ability to provide
for himself — Given under our hands at Poughkeepsie the thirteenth
day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and nine

Know all Men by these presents that I Robert
L Reade of Poughkeepsie Town sole Administrator of
the goods and credits of my late father John Reade
deceased, Do hereby make known that I have this
day set free and manumitted the slave Thomas
Warren the property of the Estate aforesaid, near forty
years of age, agreeable to the Act of the Legislature of
the State of New York concerning servants and slaves
And I do hereby for myself and the legal representatives
of the above estate and every of them absolutely renounce
all right of property in the said Thomas Warren, and
release him from all kind of servitude and dependance
as a slave to me or to the said estates, in witness
whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal at Poughkeepsie
the thirteenth day of April in the year one thousand
eight hundred and nine
