Samuel Mulford manumission of Tamar
Know all men by these presents that I Samuel C. Mulford
of the Town of Poughkeepsie in the County of Dutchess and State
of New York merchant do by these presents make known that I
have this day set free and manumitted my black female slave
Tamar Martin said to be about twenty four years of age
agreeable to an act of the Legislature of said state concerning slaves
and servants And I do hereby for myself and my legal representatives
and every of them absolutely and freely renounce all right of
property that I heretofore had in the said Tamar Martin and
for forever release her from all dependance as a slave to me or
any person claiming under me, and I do hereby certify that she
is a free woman in witness where of I have hereunto set
my hand and seal the twenty fifth day of June in the year
one thousand eight hundred and eleven

of Overseers for Tamar Martin
Whereas Samuel Mulford of Poughkeepsie in the county of Dutchess
merchant, has this day made application to us William Emott
and Thomas Nelson overseers of the poor of the town of Poughkeepsie
In order to obtain a certificate immediately before the manumission
of his slave Tamar Martin a black woman said to be 24 years of
age agreeably to an act of the Legislature of the State of New York
concerning slaves and servants We the said overseers having examin-
ed the before named slave do hereby certify that she appears to us
to be under the age of fifty years and of sufficient ability to pro-
vide for herself. given under our hands the twenty fifth day of June
in the year one thousand eight hundred and eleven
