In the case of
Moses Umphry} A Black man claiming to be a free man
I Daniel Hebard one of the judges of the Court of Common
Pleas in + for said County Do certify
that Moses Umphrey has produced a certificate
or manumission under the hands of John
Myer + Peter J. Luyster Overseers of the Poor
of the Town of Fishkill in said County. And
Paul Flagler owner of said Moses Umphry
as the law then required – On which Testimo-
-ny I am of opinion that the said Moses
Umphry is a Freeman — The said Instrument
of Manumission is dated the 24th day of
November 1806 — the said Moses is about thirty
five years of age of a prominent countenance
and smo[o]th skin — in witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand + seal
this twenty eighth day of April 1813
