Dutchess County fs. We the Subscribers William Emott and John P Vemont
overseers of the poor of the town of Poughkeepsie, and we the sub[scribers]
being two of the Justices of the peace in and for the County of Dutchess
do by these presents pursuant to the direction of a statute of the
state of New York intitled “an act concerning slaves passed the
22th Febury 1799,, certify that York a negro man slave of Gilbert
Livingston of the said town of poughkeepsie Esquire,, appears to be
under fifty years of age and of sufficient ability to provide
him self

one thousand seven hundred and Ninety seven
