John Polmentire says two strangers who call themselves
seafaring men – came to this town 23 Jan inst with
whom ^a Box one of them left the other named Christopher
with his leg dislocated in the roads near John
Polmentire’s who fetched into his house where he now
is unable to help himself

At an adjourned meeting of the Justices &
overseers of Poor for the town of Poughkeepsie at
Esqr Emoptt’s office the 8th Feby 1808

Sara Turner appeared before the board, and
says she is about twenty two years of age, and
is a single woman, her parents reside at
Shuongunck in the County of Ulster _ She has
worked about for a living since she was 12
years of age. That her father & his family have
resided on the west side of the river as long as
she can remember. that she came across the
river some time before CHristmas, and went
to live in the house of Robert Newkirk a free
black man. for some time. and from thence
she went to live with Rob Rutgers for a week
and from there to Nero’s a black man. where she has been ever since –
