Order of Removal for Jane Holland
State of New York Dutchess County fs-
To any constable of Poughkeepsie town in said County
Greeting
Whereas upon the complaint of the Overseers of the poor
of the town of Poughkeepsie and other inhabitants
of said town, unto us whose names are hereunto
set and seals affixed being two of the Justices of
the peace in and for said county. – That Jane Holland
(black woman) has come to reside in the said town of
Poughkeepsie not havoing gained a legal settlement there
in, nor produced any certificate owning her to be settled
elsewhere. and that the said Jane Hollem is likely to
become chargeable to the said town – We the said
Justices upon due proof thereof made unto us upon
Oath, and likewise upon due consideration had of
the premises do adgudge the same to be true. We do
likewise adjudge upon due proof of aforesaid that the
last place of legal settlement of the said Jane Holland
is in Stephenstown in the county of Westchester. + state
of New York _ And we the said Justices having [???]
viz. on the 14th day of April inst ordered the said
Jane Hallem to report immediately to her last place
of legal settlement, which order she has in no way
obeyed. — We do therefore in the name of the people
of the state of New York hereby command you the
said constable to take and convey the said Jane
Hallerm by the nearest and most convenient rout
to the town of Fishkill and there deliver her to –
-gether with this our precept and order unto one
of the constables of the said towns; which constable
is hereby required to remove said Jane Hallem +
convey and release her in like manner to one
of the constables of the next town in the [illeg]
to [Happen] towns aforesaid – which constable.

likewise ordered and directed to receive the said
Jane Hallems in manner aforesaid and convey her unto
Stephentown in the county of Westchester
aforesaid and there deliver her unto the overseers
of the poor of the last mentioned town, together
with this our precept and order of removal, or to
one of them, And you the said Overseers or Overseer
are hereby required to receive and provide for the
said Jane Hallems as an inhabitant of your
said town. Given under our hands and Seals
at Poughkeepsie the 21 day of April the year
1810
