OVER 247 Examinations of Leonard Williams & Elizabeth Kipp May 7/8 1812

Leonard Williams ^ black man being examined, says he is
near thirty years of age. His wife lissa is the same age
has 3 children. Simon is about 6 or 7 years of age  Maria
is a year younger. Edward is a bout 2 months old
The deponent was the slave of Hendrick Masten ^of Fishkill, deceased
after which he lived with Paul Meddagh _ after which
he lived with Bronson French, and the deponent underst[ands]
that French bought his time of Meddagh for L60 – the
wife is the slave of Bronson French, that Mr. French
nor no other person has ever manumitted either of them

Examination Elizabeth Kipp. May 8 1812
Taken upon oath before us says she was the wife
of John Kipp. the son of Polly Seabury who now lives with
William Smith^ in Poughkeepsie. She was married to Kipp about 8 years
^ago by Esqr Heermans at the Rhynbeck Falts – they never kept
house together. but Kip worked about and occasionally
came to the deponent who lived with her mother –
The have one child a girl named Maria aged about
7 years old. about three years ago she was informed
that her husband was dead. and she was informed
that Polly, Johns mother received a letter from some
persons in Kinderhook, stating that John Kipp died
of fits __ The deponent came to Poughkeepsie about
3 or 4 weeks ago and hired a room of Joseph Nelson
the rent she does not know yet – Nelson talked of $25
a year. She has no property except a little furniture
of small value — the deponent has with her her
mother an aged woman and they together intend
to keep house in the above room
