Whereas Tony Fox a Black Man of the town of poughkeepsie In the County of Dutchess and State of New York Labourer has ~ made application to us William Emott and Thomas Nelson over =seers of the poor of the town of poughkeepsie in the county and state aforesaid In order to obtain a certificate immead -iatly before the manumition of his wife and slave Margarett Fox said to be under fifty years of age. Agreeable to an Act of the Legislature of the State of New York instituted an Act concerning slaves and servents passed the 8th of April 1801 We the said overseers having examed the before named Slave Margaritt do on mature Deliberation hereby certify that she appears to be under the age of fifty years and of sufficient ability to provide for her self, giving under  our hands the Eighteenth day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and four Witness Present John Van Kleeck {Wm Emott Thomas Nelson} overseers of the Poor Recorded the 29th Day of October 1804 Rich.d Everitt Town Clerk
